Cow

Plastic cows are a common decoration for ice cream places in this area. This particular plastic cow is in front of J.P. Licks in Dedham.

Kings

Kings is a bowling alley in Dedham. The outside of Kings always catches my eye.

Big Boot

Here is the large boot in front of L.L. Bean in Dedham, MA. Perfect for the 4-6 inches of snow that fell today.

If you were wondering if the food at Dave and Busters is greasy, I think this will answer your question.

Christmas Tree

Quincy can take away your old Christmas trees via their DPW. All the residents need to do is leave the un-decorated tree out on the curb during the designated week and not have the tree covered in plastic. Here is one of the trees people have left for pickup. I thought it looked particularly pretty with the snow on it.

Snow on Sailor's Home Pond

Other than a storm in October, this winter has been pretty snowless. So, on Jan 10th when we woke up to see a light dusting of snow, I went out and took a few pictures. This is Sailor's Home Pond, all icy and snowy.

Doubtful guest

My daughter found the doubtful guest. If you never read the book, here is a video of it.

Tee hee

This picture was not made by me, this is of the city newsletter. I just added an arrow to show the funny part.

Once a week the city of Quincy sends out an email with the newsworthy items of the week. This week there was the mayor's inauguration. There also was a new group for family members of drug addicts called Learn to Cope that is starting Jan 10th. But, both those news articles together is quite funny.

Edward Gorey's house

Taken in August - This is the front of the Edward Gorey house. I fell in love with Edward Gorey's art when I watched the t.v. show "Mystery" on PBS. (He drew the opening sequence.) In college, friends bought me Amphigorey and I realized how cool he really was. This year I let me daughter see some of the less macabre works of his -- she loved them too. So, we were really looking forward to our visit. (The Gorey house is now closed for the season. They open again sometime in April.)

Silkworms

These silk worms were at the Butterfly Place in Westford MA in July. The Butterfly Place is closed for the season now, but should open again sometime in February.

Christmas decorations

Christmas might be over, but there are still houses with decorations. This is a light tree. Sadly, there wasn't any snow for Christmas this year. After we had the snow in October, we haven't really had any snow to speak of.

Quincy Fair Mall - now

In November 2010 I blogged about what the Quincy Fair Mall looked like ->And now it is gone.... Here is the current update.

There was a road created (the cars that you can see beyond the rubble are on the new road.). There was a big opening in October: Walter J Hannon Parkway opens

Now there is a easier connection to the expressway from Hancock Street. But, as you can see by the big pile of rubble, it still doesn't look finished. In fact, the view from the road is quite ugly. Hopefully it will look better by next year. There is also issues about traffic light timing -- it takes forever to get through there. The local paper wrote about it near Christmas: Trouble with Traffic

It was then changed, and Wicked Local Quincy checked a few days ago to see if the timing was fixed: Wicked Local goes down the road

Shrinky Dinks

Here are a couple of products from one of my daughter's favorite Christmas gifts -- Disney Fairies Shrinky Dinks! I didn't even know they still made these! I remember making tons of these when I was younger. It was very fun to watch the picture you just colored shrink in the oven. Now I get to watch my daughter be fascinated by the same thing.
